West Chester University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Theatre and Dance invites applicants for the full-time, Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Theatre and Dance, Production Management position to begin in Fall 2023.

The Department of Theatre and Dance, an accredited institution of the National Association of Schools of Theatre, is dedicated to the educational development of its students preparing them to meet the challenges of our contemporary world. This is achieved by creating an atmosphere that fosters creativity, curiosity, civic engagement, and social responsibility. The department’s faculty are active scholars and professionals who love teaching and are committed to student success, diversity, and ethical communication.
The faculty member will work hands on in-person on-campus with students and other faculty in Production Management. The ideal candidate is an organized, self-motivated, and visionary person who thrives in a fast-paced collaborative environment which produces 4-5 theatre productions and 2 dance productions each semester. The faculty member’s experience, expertise, and training will serve to strengthen the department’s mission and vision. The incumbent will typically work irregular hours to include nights and weekends.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDES:

Teach undergraduate courses supporting the design and production curriculum: practicum classes, stage management, introduction to theatre. Additional courses within area of specialization may be assigned depending on department needs.

Manage production including maintenance of a season calendar, production schedules, rehearsal space use, and budget management.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to a diverse population of internal and external stakeholders.

Engage in scholarly activities such as research, presentations, and publications.

Serve the University and the community through participation in various committees.

Mentor, advise, and supervise interns and student teachers.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Terminal degree in degree associated with production management.

Experience teaching theatre and/or working as a production manager at a college level.

Familiarity using computer aided drafting software.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Master’s degree in Fine Arts; and/or
-
Familiarity using AutoCAD and Vectorworks; and/or
-
Minimum 2 years of experience teaching theatre and/or working as a production manager at an institution like WCU; and/or
-
Minimum 2 years of experience student mentoring; and/or
-
Experience with production equipment and technology (lighting, sound, construction); and/or
-
Professional (non-academic) work experience in theatre and dance production; and/or
-
Experience teaching in different modalities or use of flipped pedagogies.
