Job Description:
POSITION GOALS
The Teaching Administrator/Director will provide supervisory leadership and administrative support to the Surgical Technology program, will teach students in the Surgical Technology program, and is responsible for all aspects of the program, including organization, accreditation, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general program effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Teach 10 contact hours in both the Fall and Spring semesters, for a total of 20 contact hours per academic year.
The Teaching Administrator/Director will provide supervisory leadership and administrative support to the Surgical Technology program, will teach students in the Surgical Technology program, and is responsible for all aspects of the program, including organization, accreditation, administration, continuous review, planning, development, and general program effectiveness.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Teach 10 contact hours in both the Fall and Spring semesters, for a total of 20 contact hours per academic year.
2. When conducting classes:
a. Conduct classes as scheduled.
b. Process grades as scheduled.
c. Start class on time and conduct class for the fully scheduled time period.
d. Provide students with a written statement of course requirements and expectations that shall include the attendance and grading policy, course objectives, and a course outline.
e. Retain all credit course documentation for a period of not less than three (3) years upon the completion of the course.
f. Observe the approved Departmental Master Syllabi.
3. Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities; supervise College-designated Surgical Technology facilities and staff.
4. Recommend hiring of full-time and adjunct faculty as needed.
5. Implement and review curriculum, textbooks, and other learning tools and resources to maintain effectiveness to meet goals and objectives.
6. Advise the Dean of MSHC of any situation that may require action beyond the authority of this position.
7. Coordinate the submission of all purchase order requisitions, textbook orders and provide budgetary submissions as required.
8. Assist in the development of the Master Schedule and coordinate the assignment of faculty, including summer sessions.
9. Initiate and actively participate in student recruitment and retention activities; participate in job placement of students.
10. Obtain/maintain appropriate program accreditation/certification.
11. Develop, oversee, and maintain clinical affiliations.
12. Monitor, track and address satisfactory academic progress of students.
13. Conduct program evaluation and review for all degree and certificate programs.
14. Assist the Dean of MSHC in ensuring compliance with all regulatory and accrediting agency requirements and to achieve defined educational outcomes.
15. Assemble advisory board participants, schedule and convene at least two annual meetings with the advisory board, maintain attendance records and minutes of all advisory committee meetings.
16. Attend staff, faculty, department and other meetings and prepare minutes as required; participate on College committees as assigned.
17. Attend all federally or NJ State mandated training to include, but not limited to, Right-To-Know and Blood Borne Pathogens.
18. Comply with all safety, fire and smoking regulations.
19. Complete all mandatory compliance and safety training as scheduled by Human Resources.
20. Perform all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Possess either the Certified Surgical Technologist or the joint Certified Surgical Technologist / Certified Surgical First Assistant credential prior to the date of hire;
2. Have a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology program, or a combination of both within the past ten years;
3. Possess at least an Associate's degree, with a Master's degree in an appropriate discipline preferred; and
3. Possess proficiency in instructional methodology, curriculum design, and program planning.
